The Christopher Keel Story
2013 Football Challenge Points $20,000 Grand Prize Winner!
Christopher Keel wasn't sure those meteorology classes that he took would ever be useful. But, when the 40 year-old banker from Long Island, New York checked the weather just before the start of the New York vs. Washington game, his training told him it would be a rough weather day for that game which was taking place just a few miles away. So, Chris decided to make a last minute change to his BTK fantasy football team, replacing Washington WR Pierre Garcon with Dallas WR Dez Bryant.

As it turned out, that last minute move was just what Chris needed to win the Points-Style Football Challenge Contest and the $20,000.00 cash grand prize. "I wouldn't have won without making the change," Chris exclaimed. "Most people were benching Bryant with Dallas QB Tony Romo out," he said. "But, I went against the trend because I could see how bad the weather was going to be here in New York. I thought it would be really tough going for Garcon, and I made the switch at the last minute."

Chris said the last 4 weeks of the season were really thrilling. "I really like the competition of this game," he said. "It's better than any other game." Chris recalled that he decided not to tell his wife that he was leading during the last 4 weeks because having a baby recently had provided enough excitement for her. He waited to tell her until the Sunday morning of the final regular season games, and he stressed that the two of them were really "sweating it out" during that final game. It wasn't until Dez Bryant scored a touchdown at the end of that game that Chris knew his BTK team had the points needed to win the overall grand prize.

Some of the players who were keys to the success of Chris' team were Josh Gordon and Nick Foles. "I bought both at the right time, just before they got hot," he observed. He also rostered Jamaal Charles and LeSean McCoy from the beginning of the season which was consistent with his strategy of having top quality running backs. Mid-season pick ups of Leveon Bell and Zac Stacy also helped out. Chris noted that he believes in keeping stud WRs on his roster and taking some lower priced QBs as well.

Chris has been playing fantasy sports since the mid 90's, and he has had dozens of top 100 finishes. "I'm happy to have made it to the Hall-Of-Fame," he said. "It feels like it validates all the years of my playing."

So, why did Chris name his team "BTK"? According to Chris, BTK is the abbreviation of a nickname his friends gave him many years ago, "Big Time Keel". Chris plans to use some of his winnings to establish a college fund, and to take a trip to Portugal so to visit his wife's family.
