The Perry Morgan Story
2014 Fantasy Cup - Circuit 2 Grand Prize Winner!
It's been a long time coming, and after a couple close calls, Perry Morgan finally finished on top in 2014 Fantasy Cup Circuit 2. Perry has been playing for almost 10 years, and finished 3rd in 2007 and 6th in 2012. The 68 year old used car dealer from Greenville South Carolina, says some luck, research and studying led to his victory. "You can't really control when a driver has a flat tire or a blown engine" he remarked, "but I watch to see the practice times and look at the drivers' history on the track, and try to pick the best choices."

Going into the final week, Perry had a little bit of a lead, so he thought if he just had a decent week, the people behind him would have to have a really good week to beat him. "As it turned out" he said, "I didn't have that good of a week but the guys behind be had worse weeks!" Top drivers were Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson, all finishing in the top 10. Drivers in his lineup the first week and the last week were Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin and Kurt Busch.

When discussing strategy, Perry said when I get off to a bad start, I decide to take some chances, and go with some odd ball drivers. If they do well, I get back in the game, but if they do badly I fall farther behind. Luckily, he didn't need this strategy for Circuit 2, as his squad got off to a good start. He stayed among the top and was first for 4 weeks in a row, but after a bad week fell out of first. He got back into first with 3 weeks to go, and held on for the victory. Perry would like to encourage everyone playing, saying "if I can do it, anyone can do it. I really enjoy this game, and the results I had this year really made it more fun." Some of the plans for his winnings include helping some needy families in the area and perhaps buying a new pair of glasses.
