The Russ Anno Story
2015 Baseball Super Challenge Winner
The elusive Diamond Challenge Overall Championship escaped Russ Anno once again this year. "This is a great consolation prize" Russ exclaimed after winning the 2015 Baseball Super Challenge. As the winner of the Super Challenge, Russ will be considered the best fantasy baseball player on the planet for 2015, and all the accolades and bragging rights will be his for the year.

The 57 year old software designer from the Southern California area has had numerous top 10 finishes in both Diamond Challenge Roto and Points over the last 20 years. His closest finish was 4th place in Points a few years ago. And he just missed the overall title in the Points 2nd Season challenge this year, finishing 2nd overall.

His strategy for both games, Diamond Challenge Roto and Diamond Challenge Points, involves looking for players that will be a good value in the upcoming season. And some of those players he looks for are rookies and low percentage players that he will have on his bench if they happen to "hit".

Some of his key players that fell in that category this year were Kris Bryant, Mookie Betts, A. J. Pollack, Gregory Polanco, and Jacob DeGrom. And key pick ups were Carlos Correa, Charlie Blackmon, Lorenzo Cain, Jake Arrieta, Chris Archer, Dallas Keuchel and Jeurys Familia. Russ said he was fortunate his bullpen was solid with Mark Melancon, Aroldis Chapman and David Robertson.

"Probably one of my key moves was one I did not make" Russ remembered, "I was ready to drop Mark Melancon after he got off to a horrendous start, but at the last minute decided to keep him and dropped Cody Allen instead. My patience paid off, and a lot of other people did drop him, so it turned out to be a key move."

Not all of Russ's moved turned out to be good ones. "I went with Jose Abreu instead of Anthony Rizzo, and Rizzo's extra 17 steals gave others with him an advantage. I had to pick up both Blackmon and Cain to help offset that. Not starting with Harper hurt and my staying with Johnny Cueto didn't worked out, although I was lucky to time him well." he said. Three other key players he started with were JD Martinez, Josh Donaldson and Nolan Arenado.

Russ plans to use some of his winnings to take his wife on a trip to Puerto Vallarta.
